Nausea & Vomiting During Pregnancy

"I'm only 5 1/2 weeks, isn't it too early to be vomiting 24hrs a day and have a tummy that looks like I'm 4 months??"  This is the question I was asking myself with my 1st pregnancy!!!

Well, I've learned that  feeling sick rather than feeling great in the early days of pregnancy is very common and completely normal. Some women are just simply "luckier" than others to have very mild queasiness when they first wake up in the morning and go of to enjoy the rest of the day, while others (like me) have to endure weeks or even months of feeling or being sick all day long.

I was working at the time and found it very hard as my pregnancy sickness was day and night and lasted for the whole 8 months!!! :(  Did I not mention that I was hospitalized twice for dehydration too.

The same happened for my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies. But this time I was suggested to take Vitamin B6 which took 4 weeks to kick in but helped a bit and then the hospital subscribed me with some very expensive tablets (the ones they give to their cancer patients to control the vomiting). But was only 10 in the packet... how was I meant to least for the other 4 months??   So here are some helpful tips that can help you too:

• Take Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) (along with your folic acid) while trying to conceive so you may get less severe symptoms. As it takes about 4 -5 weeks to kick in, if you wait till you find out your are pregnant then you will have to put up with pregnancy sickness for 4-5 weeks until it starts working. But always check with your doctor before taking any supplements in pregnancy.

• Eat little but often avoiding rich, spicy, acidic or fried foods. But anything that's easy to eat and keep down and hasn't got a strong smell,

• Keep some plain biscuits by your bedside,

• Limit drinks during meals but be sure to drink regularly - "I'm sure you don't wanna hear about the time I drunk a glass of water just after I had spaghetti with sauce" :/

• Try and get as much rest as possible and if you can take time off work ..take it!!

• Make ginger tea. It did not help me personally but It could help you as we
are all so different  :)
